I've heard it bandied about - this idea of just pulling up stakes and high tailing out of Afghanistan. Disappointing doesn't quite cover it. However, upon a little more reflection. It's a simple pragmatic option. If we aren't going to fight, and we aren't going to fight with the intention of winning, then what is the purpose of staying? Because we've already been there so long? That's no reason.
Whenever a military engagement has been considered since Vietnam, the call for a "clear exit strategy" has been made. This time we're in definite need for a "clear engagement strategy." And if the political leaders need to spend a few weeks to figure this out - how about just delegating this decision to those closer to the problem, like the deployed military.
Fish or cut bait - that's the bottom line. This wishy-washyness is literally killing us.
